Space as the leading role

Slowly but steady the concept for my short film is taking shape. As I see it now I do not want to concentrate on a story, but rather create an experience. I'm choosing this kind of approach because I’m afraid if I stick to a narrative I will make a moving illustration of the street. This is not what I want since I’m not interested in recreating what is there already.

My "windows"

What I do find interesting is the contradiction of the social behaviour of the inhabitants of the street. Their occupation is that of fairground entertainers, so during their working days they want to be the centre of attention, attracting as many people as possible so they can to ride their rides. But then when you come to visit them in their private surroundings they are every closed off, literally but also figurally speaking. They do not like strangers propping their nose in or around their home.

Ideas of how to portray space

With this in mind I want to translate this fascination into a film that gives you the feeling of chasing for someone or something. You want to catch up with them, but you can’t. Because the landscape of the location (chaotic plant growth scattered with ordered open spaces) also made an impression on me, I want the landscape to have the leading role. From space to space you travel trough small windows of perception.

Back to work, hopefully it will work.
